I have been saying these exact words for YEARS. Many of my friends growing up typically either had multi generations living under one house/area or their parents living with them and had a gigantic house.

I can honestly say if when we had this situation with my grandmother, when my grandfather was getting alzheimers, she would still be alive today.

To sort of contradict myself, I don't know how Asian families are, but my European family is nuts! I would rather jump off a 10 story building then live with them. Love you guys! lol.

i lived next to a few asian families and typically the grandparents cared for the children, the wife took care of the house and the husband (middle generation) did all the working. silicon valley is known for 60 hour or more work weeks but to generalize, not many could outwork the asians as it wasn't uncommon to find that they didn't do anything but work. all other details were cared for by other family members.

I graduated in 2010 with an economics. I lived in VA at the time, got into IT at a place where my father worked, and got a much better paying job out of state where I live in a very nice apartment complex in a desirable part of town and shortened my commute by 75 miles a day. I lived at home until I moved in March (I turned 26 in April), but paid for all my own way otherwise. Had I not had those two years of family support after college and throughout, I certainly wouldn't be as well off as I am today.

I laugh at the idea that 60 hours a week is hard. Try 100+ and then come complain to me.

the husband did all the work? so... 5+ people on 1 salary?

40 is MORE than enough for me now. i'm old and tired. haven't had a week off in six years and i doubt many people could say that.

this example was a mobile home park so one large salary with small housing costs. but definitely lots of people in a not big house.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Work less. Live more. Wish more people in SV would understand that, but OCD is a bit rampant here.

I thought for sure there would be more stability, income wise, with those kind of families.

Referring to the part of life that is not pure labor? Evolution has observed that humans increasingly seek additional pursuits, beyond mere work, to enhance their enjoyment of life. Need to get out of the cubicle more.

Personal freedom is deeply intertwined w/personal responsibility.....commies may want state making these choices and having state pay for all the mistakes....can't have private freedoms and expect society to pay for one's own screw-ups/laziness....ask our EU welfare clowns how that's working out as their 50yo Ponzi scheme unwinds
You fail to understand something important here...American business isn't interested in hiring Americans-at all! The wages you have to pay anyone living in the United States is much more than any Indian or Chinese can be had for, so it really doesn't matter that much what a person's degree is in. If you're an American, you need not apply.
