Expect major sticker shock, pretty much everything costs more here except restaurant food. The restaurants here are better though (unless you are looking for Tex-Mex).

When my ILs from OKC come out and visit they love it here because the weather is way nicer, there is lots of natural beauty, you can have a year-round garden and the produce here is outta this world. Plus it gets cool at night, even in the summertime. My husband grew up in OKC and he thinks he has landed in paradise.

No tornadoes or ice storms is also a major bonus.

Housing costs are seriously brutal here though. Have you began to look? Do you have any specific questions?

What Stacy said^^^^

The housing costs here are brutal and they are a permanent feature of this area. It never really lets up. The weather is fabulous but we pay through the nose for it. We also have earthquakes to contend with. They are not regular, but obviously are very disruptive when they happen. We never know when the big earthquake is going to strike, but seismologists say we're overdue for a big earthquake (bigger than the one we had in '89).

Look into Los Gatos and Saratoga if you can afford it. Great schools and both are super safe. Los Gatos has more of a community sense whereas Saratoga is more woodsy and private. They have a tiny little down-town in Saratoga but it lacks the stores, restaurants, and vibrancy of downtown Los Gatos. Both are great places to live.

Also, Almaden Valley in San Jose is another option. Cheaper then the above mentioned, but fairly nice and close to major shopping in Oakridge Mall and Costco on Almaden Expressway.

Need to know how much OP is willing to spend on housing, and how far to commute.
