Affordability is a relative thing, depending on income, my limit $500K for 2/3 bedroom condo is what affordable for me, it is not cheap, but it is affordable. All this amenities and my sense of affordability is what I got used to have here in Walnut Creek, and even more. I can put my question this way: is Walnut Creek the only heaven in whole Bay Area and no more places like this even close?

There are cheaper places to live in the Bay Area...especially in the east bay moving from pinole, hercules, over to concord, pleasant hill and walnut creek...Moving out from walnut creek things start to go uphill in terms of price and affordability for the east bay either in relation to being closer commuting towns or just a prestige factor in terms of high end schools or area desirability. Perhaps due to the housing price drop a few years ago, walnut creek did become more affordable along with keeping its good school reputation...assuming its schools haven't gone downhill at all? Walnut creek is also known for being further out in terms of commute time for many people who live there and commute into SF...so it is not considered close to most job sites as San Jose or Santa Clara or other towns in the south bay would be considered as being "in the center" of where most of the tech companies are in silicon valley.

Edited.. Looking at greatschools.org, looks like the schools themselves in walnut creek have some very high scores, so perhaps walnut creek is a great place being more affordable than the south bay along with having really good schools.

Commuting from Walnut Creek to Redwood City would be dreadful, but it does seem like there aren't any better options within the OP's price range. A year ago there were condos under $500K in places like Saratoga, Los Gatos, but not any longer. That ship has sailed.

One suggestion I have is to look at the new condos on Bair Island in Redwood City, as those would be in the right price range. The complex is called One Marina and they have Affordable Housing Plan units. You can also find the odd older condo in Belmont, San Carlos and San Mateo, all of which would be entirely suitable.
