The BART website says that the parking lot fills up around 6:30am!
How is someone starting work at 9am get to SF downtown from Fremont via BART?

I can think of 3 options, I think they're fairly obvious:

1) Go to work early
2) Drive further down the line (the Hayward station (2 stops further) doesn't fill up till 8:30)
3) Use alternate means of transportation to get to the BART station: there are many buses serving that station, or ride a bike (very good for health and the environment), or find someone to drop you off and pick you up.

Also, you can sign up on the waiting list for a reserved spot. I have no idea how long the wait is.

The Union City station (one BART stop up) parking lot is never full. Of course, you will have to park in those lots in the back and walk to the station (10 mins), but you can always find a space. I have driven there in the middle of a weekday at 10:00 AM and found plenty of parking.

Depends on when you get there, but there is SOME free on-street parking along Mowry Avenue and along the side streets. They do jam up quick though, I'm guessing by 7:30 AM.

Do not try to park in a shopping center as they will give you a ticket or even tow your car.

Thanks for the suggestions.

It turns out I have to come back to San Jose for a meeting at noon so I will have to drive to SF.

If you are driving from Fremont, I'd suggest to leave early enough to be able to manage the traffic at "the maze" and the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza. It gets insane at morning rush hour.

I would suggest to take the San Mateo Bridge instead. It's busy, but at least it's orderly.

I live near the 101/880 interchange, so I drove up 101N. Started at 7am, and made it in by 8:30am... barely (Beale/Folsom area). Would take CalTran next time.

Coming back, you wouldn't be on an express so it would've taken an hour and a half back too. At least you wouldn't have been driving though.

How is the bike parking at the fremont bart station? If I go in around 9am, will I get open/closed parking? I am not planning to get an expensive bike. Is there a waiting list to get the bike containers there?

I dont want to take the bike on the train. I would rather leave the bike at the station and focus on my work/kindle in the train.

Thanks for reading.
