That's just it: The cheesy folks who frequent this particular fantasyland display a stunning lack of anything of note beneath the shiny, tacky veneer. It ain't just the dressing up - these emperors wear no clothes.

Yes, it's pretty artificial, a European style shopping area in San Jose. I went there a few times when I lived in the area. It's just about the nicest place in San Jose. Downtown is not a great place to hang out. If you don't like it, then don't go there.

Where's the problem? Most guys in San Jose would appreciate women dressing sexier. Many don't dress sexy enough, and yet I bet these single women complain to their friends about rarely getting approached by guys.

It may be cheesy, but what's the alternative? People around the area dress like slobs or think that wearing a Google t-shirt when going out looks cool. Give me a break. Lets face it, SJ is never going to be the fashion capital of NYC, Miami or even SF. However, it is a nice change of scenery once in a while to see folks that try to make an effort to look good, despite the cheesiness.

I am glad that San Jose does little to attract people who think women are decorations.

San Jose doesn't do much to attract women at all. There's a reason why they call it "Man Jose": Looking for Love - Oprah.com

Yes, the reason is that people within the tech industry only see the world within the tech inudstry, which is male-dominated. Citing an obscure publication called the US Census, SJ has a lower ratio of males than a couple more famous California cities. Pro tip: don't make arguments based on terrible puns.

If you're referring to LA, SD or even SF in terms of male-female ratio, its not necessarily the quantity of women but the quality that is far superior.

What year is this? The "quality of women?" You and Billy should go out on the town and have fun 50 years ago.

I don't know; I actually think American culture is too much sided on outside appearance. (i.e. business suits at irresponsible companies, school uniforms, dress codes at douchey bars, etc.) It's nice to live somewhere where that's not the norm.
