Hello, in browsing houses we've seen a few possibilities that are in the Rose Garden area of San Jose. Is this a safe neighborhood for a young family?
Thanks!

The Rose Garden area is a great place. It's one of the most beautiful parts of SJ. Crime can happen anywhere, but overall this is a safe part of town. Your biggest concern would be the quality of the schools. It's not in the best school district, but is still a very nice place to live. The location is great, since it's very central to most parts of SJ and other parts of the Bay Area.

Safety would not be a concern for me, but with a family, schools might be. The best schools in SJ are typically in West SJ (near Cupertino/Saratoga, etc.) and Almaden Valley (near Los Gatos/Campbell).

If you're considering private schools, I'd move there in a heartbeat. It really is a nice area.

Thank you for your reply! Unfortunately schools are a factor, so guess we will have to pass on that area. We are looking at Campbell and Willow Glen as well, hopefully the schools are better in those areas.

I've heard the schools are decent in Campbell, but not so good in Willow Glen, once you get past Elementary school. You should head to the west valley. You can look at areas that have nice downtowns that you're looking for AND good schools, including Los Gatos, Saratoga, Mountain View, Los Altos, and Palo Alto. Also, Cupertino has very good schools, but not much of a downtown.

Thanks Road Warrior! How about Blossom Valley or Cambrian? Those areas seem more in line with our budget.

I've heard those are decent areas and have good schools. For me personally, I'm not a fan of West SJ, since it just seems to be sprawl with no downtown/character. However, if you want good schools, a safe neighborhood and a more affordable location, you probably can't go wrong.
