Being stuck in an apartment for the time being, I'm wondering if anyone has has heard of any place I can go and make some workshop noise? I'd like to do some very minor woodworking projects (as simple as drilling some holes in a thin piece of wood and hammering some nails) without bothering my neighbors too much and getting evicted.

In my searches I've turned up places like TechShop and Sawdust Shop, and while they seem pretty cool, they are a lot more expensive than what I need. I don't need to use whatever $500k ultra-mega laser lathe they have available, I just want to walk in and out in 20 minutes and use my own tools for less than $100 bucks per visit.

Anyone have any ideas for the garage-less apartment dweller in the San Jose/Santa Clara area?

This is a case where befriending a few folks at the local bar might pay dividends. Somebody will know somebody with workspace.

TechShop really is the best option... It's $125 a month. Have you gone down there and taken a tour?

Sounds like he already crossed that off. Doesn't need all their high-fallutin' tools; just a space to use his own.

Well he's not going to find a place that's free... that wouldn't make any sense. Seems like a city park or a parking lot somewhere would work just fine.

Gotta find somebody with a garage or warehouse. A little people skills can go a long way.

Best place is "Santa Clara Adult Education", good shop, good support, very nice folks, cheap, 3 hour sessions (you don't have to do everything in a day)
