This is a good point. I think Californians, especially those who've lived here our entire lives tend to feel crowded out and priced out of many things because of many of the newcomers. Lifelong residents like myself have just become sort of complacent to outsiders and tend to not be very outgoing or accommodating toward them. I'd say that in smaller more intimate social situations most people in San Jose and CA general are friendly and welcoming. We just tend to come across as a little bit aloof until we get to know people on a personal level.
This has been my experience moving here from Texas. I always assumed it was the Stanford/Tech factor where everyone views themselves as more intelligent as anyone else!

Blaming your location on your failings in life is just a sad rationalization of your own shortcomings.

I notice that the more recent newcomers are also quite aloof as compared with ones who were arriving 10 - 20 years ago. The Bay Area is changing and not necessarily for the better.

More people are coming here just to make a quick buck and run. Often more than a little off-putting for those of us who call the place our long-term home, especially when we suspect hustlers or scammers in our face-to-face interactions.

Once upon a valley of orchards...

But those who enjoy the SAHM life can surely take pleasure in planting as fertile a garden as there can be in the whole of the country. Or at least visit the many farmers' markets around the South Bay that feature fabulous produce.

Or you can join the Veggielution crew And go work your butts off at the Prusch farm. I swear to God, that thing is such an anachronistic sight in San Jose...

Damn right. Our volunteers have a massive plot in the Prusch Park garden and at the Mayfair garden, and are soon to once again work with Veggielution and Full Circle Farm. Gonna plant the new crops as soon as we bring some seedlings from the Master Gardeners' Spring Garden Market (April 13th):

Yeah, Prusch farm is another of San Jose's best-kept secret gems. Too damn secret, to be honest.

People in Campbell, Sunnyvale, Mountain View and other little armpit cities always tell me about how their farmer's market is an absolute blast compared to the ones in San Jose. I laugh in their face and tell them that in San Jose we don't do the yuppie farmer's market bull****, we actually go and plant, farm, and harvest ourselves.

Shut them up all the time I guess they didn't know San Jose is so hard core we even have our own publicly-accessible, fully-working ranch, with a red barn too, I might add!
