Can a 16 year old rent an apartment and move out with parental consent?

I cannot imagine that a landlord would rent to a 16 yo for several reasons.

In San Jose? I didn't dare try that until I had graduated from college. I was 22 when I got my first job (jobs, actually) and moved out.

A minor cannot sign a legally binding contract in CA. So, the parents would have to sign all contracts (appt, car, PG&E, ...) and make *themselves* financially liable.

Unless you are an "emancipated minor". You should talk to a legal expert about how that legally changes things, and how to get "emancipated".

Do you want to explain more about your situation? There might be other ways we can help.

If the lease was in your parents name and they signed the lease, maybe. I had the same desire at 16, hell most of my friends had the same desire. You can't wait it out until 18? Maybe find a job and save up for a couple years?

OP might not have good internet access, but seems strange they haven't come back to read or answer posts.

Wouldn't exactly be the first time such an occurrence happened in here...

Not sure if the OP is still around, but in case you are, better to ask your questions here than a message board. Good luck!
