I guess San Jose Unified has changed. In my day there was busing across town, and why not go to private school if they were going to bus you to Lincoln or San Jose High anyway?

Leigh is in a different school district; I never heard anything bad about Leigh, quite the contrary.

So any threat of busing is good and gone? My memory was that most of Almaden Valley (save for the western tip) was part of the lopsided San Jose Unified School District. And that meant busing at one point.

If you live within the boundary served by the school, your kid goes to that school unless it doesn't have any more capacity. I don't know if that affects any schools currently. I rented in Almaden Valley during 2008-2012, and my stepdaughter attended Leland HS without any issues even though I never lived there until the summer before school started.
