Hi there,

We are a family of four with young, homeschooled kids, trying to decide between the two. LG would be a closer commute by about 15 mins. but would be a huge stretch financially. We have family in Soquel and love the Santa Cruz county area but the commute is killing us Blecch. For some reason I can't quite get excited about Scotts Valley but maybe could come to like it in time .... hmmm. Just curious about others' opinions. Thanks. p.s. we are in Santa Cruz right now.

Scotts Valley is only 6 miles from SC. It has better schools, lower crime, and more of a small mountain town feel. Actually its really more like a suburb of SC. So if you want to stay closer to family in SC it may be a good option.

I guess it depends on which drive you would be doing more often - visiting SC or driving to work daily. Hwy 17 is a pretty awful commute, especially during the Winter, rain, ice and fog seasons. Many accidents occur as a consequence. The extra cost *may* be worth it if it reduces daily stress and provides more time with immediate family. Tough decision indeed. Most will probably tell you Los Gatos here on this forum. But since you already live in SC you are somewhat familiar with both, what works best for your family will be the most important deciding factor.

Derek

I would first search these forums for threads with "Scotts Valley" in the title, read them, and then come back with specific questions that you have. (This question, or one very like it, has been asked quite a few times already. Such as the " What's Scotts Valley like?" thread which has been active recently.)
