Hi All -

I'm looking to either move to Santana Row or Milpitas. I currently work in Mountain View and I'm trying to understand what would be the best option in terms of commute time.

Could you also provide which routes would be the best to take?

Thanks!

237 WB will be congested from Milpitas until you get past Great America Parkway.

If you can afford to then move to Santana Row, not only would the 237 be a mare as said above its a lot nicer place to live in my opinion. From there you can take the back roads to MV too and avoid the freeway pain.

Commute wise Milpitas is bad but Santana Row is no better. Going local would rarely beat the highway in terms of time because of all the traffic lights, although psychologically you feel better waiting on a red light than waiting in traffic. 85 is very congested and going in and out of Santana Row is never easy.

But yeah Santana Row is a lot nicer.

How is it that we're comparing a commercial/housing development to a city?

San Jose is much larger than most cities in the south bay, it is tough to compare San Jose to X, because you inevitably have to speak about every different region in San Jose, as the neighborhoods are very different from each other. People more or less are able to get away with that for other cities, since all the city seems the same. Santana Row in particular is very different from the neighborhoods around it. Either way they seem so different Santana Row and Milpitas, I would venture that Milpitas would be way less expensive, kind of weird to compare them.

Milpitas is the same distance from Mountain View, (or closer if north of 101 MV), as Santana Row. But the traffic on 280 and 85 these day, I would venture that OP would have a slightly shorter commute from Milpitas. Taking San Tomas to Central is not likely to be faster, unfortunately.
