Folks

We are family of 4 moving from TX to Bay Area. My job is going to be in Sunnyvale and our plan is to rent and not purchase at moment. I am OK with a 45-60min commute each way. Priority are excellent elementary and high school. We don't mind downsizing from a 3100sq ft to a 1500 sq ft house.

Please help with suggestions on areas to rent with great schools. Commute time at 1hr max

Thanks for all your help

I would suggest that you first read all of the threads asking about info for people moving to silicon valley for work - there are several every month, so dozens are available. Then, ask specific questions that haven't been answered in those other threads.

A good resource for figuring out where cities are physically located, driving times, and distances is : https://maps.google.com/

Well almost anywhere 45 to 60 minutes commute time from Sunnyvale that is 1500sqft SFH is going to rent for twice what you paid for 3000sqft in Texas just be prepared for that.

Some suggestions: Palo Alto, Cupertino, Fremont (south side). We don't know your budget, but be prepared to pay a lot more than what you are currently paying.

Consider Santa Clara. Right next to Sunnyvale, nice, safe town, good schools:

Santa Clara Schools - Santa Clara California School Ratings - Public and Private

I lived there for 10 years and loved Santa Clara. Just retired to Redding last month. I did not have any experience with the schools there, but knew people who did and were happy with them.

You have many options. And hour radius covers much of the Bay Area. My choices, considering both elementary school, high school, decent white enrollment (I'm white), and commute time, would be: Saratoga, Los Gatos, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Burlingame, San Mateo (Baywood, Aragon, Highlands), Redwood Shores, Belmont, and Pleasanton.
