I have heard many people praise LAHS and have talked to kids that have gone on to the ivys a few years ago. The facilities look great too. But I recently came across some posts from 2004 regarding some gang activity making its way onto campus thanks to a couple of sketchy blocks in Mountain View that get zoned into this school. This is not a very big area on the map. I also read subsequent posts that say this is not pervasive and that the school has kept this off campus.

It'd be great to see responses from parents of CURRENT students, teachers, students themselves and administrators as to how much of a problem this is in 2013/14? Does this effect a student's daily life, academic pursuits, extracurricular activities, friendships etc?

Based on what I know (had done some substitute teaching there a few years ago) and knowledge from teachers and staff, this is not a problem. The immediate neighborhood around the school is residential and it's a few blocks from downtown Los Altos, city hall, police and fire services, so safety in the immediate area isn't an issue. Security on campus is also good.

I think a bigger issue is about socioeconomic integration or lack thereof - there is a bigger divide between the lower income students and the affluent students than at their sister campus, Mt. View High School - and that needs to be worked on a continual basis.
