Even Los Gatos is red =/ Which means their data is *very* questionable.

I lived in Campbell for years (and still work here) and it is arguably much safer than Milpitas (which is also perfectly safe). Either of these places crime is pretty much a non-issue.

I am using Trulia's crime map and trying to stay away from yellow and red areas. The only problem is I don't know how accurate it is.

Castro Valley looks pretty green in Trulia's crime map for an instance. However, Campbell was more of yellow and red.
Milpitas is quite safe, you should have no problems in that area.

silverkris and tehsquishmeister, thanks for the info. Since I am really unfamiliar with the area, I have been only using Trulia's crime map. it is relieving to know that they are safe areas as well. I will extend my search to Casto Valley (preferrable), Milpitas and Campbell.
I appreciate all the help.

Check greatschools, even though you do not have children. Areas with "score 7 and better" middle and high schools are almost guaranteed to be safe. On other hand low numbers do not always mean "bad area".
Also, because you'll work for Google you can check Walnut Creek, Alameda, Pleasanton etc. The are all safe and cheaper than Silicon Valley, and shuttles go there.

ilkhd2, I started looking for the areas that you mentioned. Thanks! How about Livermore? I can find some decent properties there. Would you guys suggest that area?

The commute is going to be very time consuming if you reside in Livermore and go to Mt. View every day. Wouldn't recommend it.

The only remotely unsafe neighborhoods in Silicon Valley are East Side San Jose and East Palo Alto. The rest is fine in terms of safety.

I always advocate downtown San Jose, it's awesome. Takes about an hour and a half to get to google from there using Cal Train plus light rail plus bus.

Or you can take light rail to ohlone-chenowyth from downtown and take Google's shuttle.

To get transit directions just go to google maps, type in a an origin address, use "google"as destination, and select the transit option. For starting from downtown, I always use 151 south 2nd street, sj, as that is pita pit, which btw is an awesome restaurant. :-)
