Hello,

I apologize to creating yet another moving to Bay Area thread but I need some advice from the old timers here.

I have been offered a job in San Francisco that I really like but I am not too keen on living in the City. We are moving from MidWest and would prefer a more suburban family friendly settings. Our combined Salary would be around 300K and we have 3 boys with one going to elementary school. Things that are important to us are good school district and outdoors. We will initially be renting but eventually want to buy a house. I have done some research and it seems like Pleasonton/Walnut Creek and surrounding area would fit us but I am not too sure about the commute to SFO. Company that I will be working for has a shuttle service to San Jose/Mountain View/Palo Alto but these areas are either too expensive or school districts are not as good. My question is what would be some good areas for us to consider we can rent/buy a house with the Salary I mentioned above

Thanks

By SFO do you mean the airport or the city of San Francisco? If the city then Walnut Creek, Plesant Hill or Pleasanton would work San Francisco BART Map BUT if you will be working in San Jose, Mountain View or Palo Alto all I can say is don't.

Those who use the BART to the city need to comment on the specifics.

This assumes that you can get to your workplace conveniently using the BART.

There are many areas of San Francisco that are not your typical "big city" neighborhood. If I were you I'd stay in these areas, your combined salary should definitely allow that.

I will just chime in to say that Walnut Creek is really nice. Safe, pretty area and if you can take BART to work, should suit what you're looking for.
