Hi there,
I was hoping for some advice.
My family is relocating to the Bay Area later this year and my husband's job will be based in Cupertino. I have been looking at different areas to live and am shocked (!) at how expensive it is live in nearby places like Los Gatos and Saratoga etc. I like the look of Pleasanton as we have two young children and I'm looking for an affordable, family-friendly neighbourhood with good schools. Does anyone have any information about the approx commute to Cupertino from Pleasanton? I know there is a shuttle so at least he wouldn't be driving - but just keen to gather how long the commute usually takes. Here in the UK he commutes for about 1hr 20 mins which is OK but anything more might be a bit much. Is Pleasanton really nice? It looks lovely.
If anyone has any other neighbourhood recommendations I would be hugely grateful. We need good schools and somewhere with a walkable downtown and a nice, friendly community. We don't want to spend any more than about 4500k per month on rent. Thank you so much in advance!

Plesanton is a great neighborhood, safe with good schools. The commute to Cupertino will be more than an hour (probably 80-90 minutes one way). I used to go from Pleasanton to N San Jose, which was 45 minutes to 75 minutes, depending on the time I left. It's a commute in traffic and not against it.

Thanks very much. That's really helpful. Do you think it's a commute that many people do? Or do you think most people working in south bay prefer to live in south bay? It's just so expensive! I can't understand how people do it!

There is free shuttle bus to Apple from Pleasanton. Many people doing same thing just because of kids, schools and nice place. Also ukarrival thing is that many people have stocks options they sell stocks after 10 years and just buy home. It is possible. Apple is nice company to work for.

Well for start I could only recommend further away. Like Livermore and Dublin but for 4,500 per month you can have great house in Pleasanton!

Also check this!

The swimming pool is must in Pleasanton because weather is tropical

Also in Apple it's ok to "work from Bus" and that to be count in working hours. You have free wifi to connect on company network.

Tropical? Pleasanton has a dry heat in summer, just like pretty much all of California. The inland East Bay Areas (Pleasanton/Dublin/San Ramon/Livermore, etc.) can get very hot during the summer though, so access to a swimming pool would be ideal.

Ok I do agree "dry" is right term. But for someone from UK or north part of Europe that looks like tropical

As already mentioned, Apple does provide a luxury shuttle bus between Pleasanton and Cupertino. You should definitely check to see if there is room available on it - it would make the commute much more enjoyable.

I did a search on "Pleasanton" and found the following threads you might find useful :
