The East Foothills along with southern Evergreen are very nice as well. Even downtown has taken huge strides in bringing better architecture to the city center over the last few years. I've also always enjoyed looking at the mountains surrounding the valley.

So, your assessment is way off-base. Of course there are going to be unattractive parts of town in any large city. Both SF and Oakland have many of them.
Still, San Jose just can't compare to other cities in terms of natural beauty.

Best of San Jose:

Denver, Seattle, and even LA are way more beautiful than San Jose. San Jose as a whole is very unattractive compared to other cities.

Like I said, San Jose is not a tourist city. People here just wants to work, live, and play without the tourists getting in the way. All of our museums and attractions are for the locals, NOT for the tourists. Our economy, and the rest of the South Bay, is based on high-wage STEM jobs instead of low-wage hospitality/tourism, and for many of us, that is a point of pride.

There are many beautiful corners in San Jose. And as far as we are concerned, it makes no lick if outsiders think of our city as ugly, as long as we secretly know it is not.

And for what it's worth, no matter how hard San Jose is played up as "ugly" by outsiders, the outsiders just keep on moving here! What the heck?
By "not a tourist city" you mean less exciting. Tourists would get too bored in San Jose.
San Francisco also has lots of great jobs, yet people there can still enjoy its beauty and excitement.

If it means less exciting, that's fine Like I said, it's up to interpretations. San Jose was built by its people for ourselves, and we locals know where to go to get our fix of excitement.

San Francisco is the center of the Bay Area for the last 100 years. It is by necessity and legacy a beautiful and happening place.

Do you need to be reminded of how young San Jose is?

Denver is located a top practically a mountain, it is also much older than San Jose.

Seattle is located next to the shoreline of a huge sound. It is also much older than San Jose.

SF is surrounded by water on all three sides, and is built upon hills. It is also MUCH older than San Jose.

LA is located next to the shoreline of the Pacific Ocean. It is also MUCH older than San Jose.

The cities you mentioned are blessed with both geographic beauties and age. There's nothing San Jose can do about these things which it were not blessed with. And that's OK, we here will enjoy it nonetheless

Your post is saying, "San Francisco is better than San Jose in terms of both excitement and beauty."
I don't get your logic. If SF is so great then why not live there? San Jose being young isn't an excuse for being boring and ugly.

bobby, your posts are kinda saying that you're forced to live in San Jose. You keep on saying how other cities have an advantage over San Jose, then why not live there?

No, my post is not saying that. My post is explaining to you why SF is an exciting touristy place. It did not say anything about my desirability to live there.

San Jose being young is not an excuse for being boring and ugly, BECAUSE it is NOT boring and ugly.

Oh by the way, welcome back trollsack! We kinda missed ya and your anti-San Jose rant once every 3 months. Do make yourself at home, because at this point we're all going to sit back and let you run your mouth

Have a nice day!

If the fact that San Jose doesn't have as many things to do as other places AND it is not blessed with the beauty that other cities have doesn't mean boring and ugly, I don't know what is.

Just because a place is touristy doesn't mean it is not suitable for locals. I'm not even complaining about the downtown right now. It's just that San Jose is boring compared to other cities.

Not to mention bang for your buck. SF is expensive, sure, but it is definitely worth it. Lots of things to do for the locals and tourists alike, and great beauty. San Jose is more expensive than most cities, but it doesn't beat other cheaper cities in most categories.

The only things about San Jose that are ahead of other cities is cleanliness/safety and lots of jobs. But SF has the latter. Who would want to live in such an expensive area just for cleanliness and safety?

I'll concede that San Jose isn't an exciting place or a tourist destination. Most locals actually prefer it that way too.

I still disagree about it being ugly. Here's a link to a thread I posted awhile back:

I took a look at some of those. Still no match for SF.
