I did Mission Peak once. It reminded me too much of my firefighting experiences in the Big Sur area.

Thanks.,

Have you done Big Basin Berry Creek Falls loop? It's around 10 miles round trip which is longer than Mission peak but it is much less strenuous on average -- thus requiring around similar endurance levels.

You can see three quite nice waterfalls, including this one, on the loop. There are also occasional ocean-views and redwood groves.

I am thinking to do a monument peak, where do you normally start from to get there>

Here's a map of Ed Levin Park with its trails where you can access Monument Peak. From Milpitas I'd take Calaveras Blvd. east into the foothills. Make a left on Downing Rd. which will take you directly to the entrance of the park. The parking fee is $6. Once in the park continue to the farthest parking lot to park. The trail head is close to there.
