I made to top of Mpeak twice this year, but I am looking to see what else is available. MP is great that you get a bird's eye view of entire valley with its 5.0 miles round trip but I am wondering any good hiking area available with similar distance and endurance level around bay area, especially toward ocean highway 1.
Thanks.,

Mt Diablo is a good hike. The top is a great view. There is a parking lot at the top and a lot of people just drive to the top. There is a lighthouse and an observation deck that wraps around.

Some of the trails on Mt. Tamalpais have amazing views of the bay and San Francisco.

Get a good hiking book. I recommend Moon Handbook 101 Great Hikes in the Bay Area. There are hikes pretty much everywhere in the Bay Area.

There are so many parks and open space preserves in the Bay Area that it would take several years even to visit all of them, let alone hike all of the trails.

Yes. If you want a print book, Jane's is good, and there are others. Better yet, forget books, just pick a hike off bahiker and go try it. As long as you're sensible, all you really have to lose is stress and calories.

Monument Peak in Milpitas. A little bit more elevation gain than Mission Peak but with an additional 2.5 to 3 miles when doing a round trip hike. Not that many people do this hike compared to Mission Peak.

The only downside of bahiker is it doesn't include any maps, whereas her book (and any good hiking book) will have a good map depicting the specific hike you are taking, often better than you could obtain by highlighting the same route on the official park map.
