Same here for me. I already cut down a lot, and I bought a house in the southern suburb so I can enjoy my lawn and yards green all seasons. If I didn't want any lawns I would have bought a condo in Downtown instead. I'm only watering twice a week now and I'm not happy with the dull green at all. I'll be taking out half my front lawn this summer and just tile it over. That's enough for me.

I'll just ride it out until the State comes to its senses and tell the almond growers to grow 25% less.

Irrigation system is configured to run twice a week for 8 minutes per section; considering reducing the lawn section to zero watering and just let it go brown for the summer. I also just asked my pool guy to install a pool cover. Already in the habit of not running water continuously while brushing teeth or shaving. Thinking about putting a bucket in the shower to collect a few gallons for watering plants or whatever. Every little bit helps.

Will rip out the lawn and pool altogether when I have the budget, but it ain't going to happen this year, since I replaced the roof just in time for the rain we never got.

All this is still just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Any real conservation measure is going to require the farmers to fallow some of their thirstiest crops.

Maybe some of you can explain to me... since the main issue is the lack of snow on the Sierras, aren't we making things worse by breaking the water cycle (when we keep our area drier and reduce both evaporation and ground-water discharge as a result)?

Yes! I'm boycotting California-grown rice, in those flooded rice paddies outside of Sacramento. Well, that's whatever's left from what they export to Japan...

Gotta love the public service announcements, though, by the rich huge rice growers, about how they are "saving" the migratory birds by keeping the rice paddies fllooded - because their natural habitats are diminishing.....um, because they're diverting the Sacramento River for the rice paddies....

Wagging the dog...

I will be doing water conservation, but if the approach is 25% across the board cuts, it actually works to my advantage not to have conserved water up to this point.

I replaced my garden with drought tolerant California natives. No more watering of any kind.

Why not replace all of those rice paddies with Quinoa? Which grows really well in dry climates. Save ourselves lots and lots of water.

The Coachella Valley and Orange County: Not included. Tons of water underground there. Just for their use. Thank goodness for that. Whoops, it's time for me to hose down my patio - lots of dust blowing around the last few days. Can't have that.

BTW I was looking at the long term forecast. It looks like a snowy April in the making for the Sierras. Better postpone those trips across the pass until sometime in May.
