this is how you can do it for Santa Clara County.

go to the county assessor page and look up the address. It will give you an eight digit parcel number (APN) associated with the address. then go to the registrar of deeds and search for "official documents" under APN but remove the dashes. look for the most recent document called "deed" and click on it. It will give you the most recent owner.

I advise against whitepages reverse lookup, that only tells you who recently had a phone at that address, and in the case of VOIP service is highly inaccurate.

Santa Clara County Recorders Office

If you have problems you can PM me, there are certain types of properties where it may be tricky particularly cases where the current owner purchased pre-build in a newly subdivided development.

google "sfblockshopper" and the address there will be a property history and the last change of hand of the property will be the owner. Sometimes it listed the previous owner at the top of the page and that section hasn't been updated yet. You should find your answer there

This is the way to find out an owner's name and address - through the county tax assessor's office. It's public record who owns a property. But, you'll just get the name and address of the person or entity where they send the tax bills.

Sometimes an owner will use a business name and a post office box. But, maybe that will suffie for your purposed.

if a business entity owns the home/holds deed, then use this:

Business Search - Business Entities - Business Programs

for documents regarding the entity.

This is all public record and will cost you nothing or very little to get.

Any Realtor can provide a property profile...

Before I had connections, I would visit the county recorder and do my research.

realtors generally don't give you more than they have to.

Owning rental property in the Bay Area I must be on a list somewhere because I am always getting offers of assistance... property profiles, farming, comparables... etc.

I was looking at property in Washington State and my Bay Area Realtor provided property profiles on 3 I was very much interested...

I would think any out of area Realtor could do the same...
