We are looking at homes in and around the Ranch Golf Club- On the hills (exit on Hellyer Avenue). We commute to Sunnyvale (Mathilda) everyday for work and wanted to know how much time it take typically if

1. Using a carpool - start time between 8:00 am to 8:30 am

2. Not using a carpool - start time around 9:00 am

Would be great to have the views of the community

In addition if you all can provide me with some information on the connectivity of the area to say - groceries, medical, shopping etc then it would be great as well

thanks

I lived right in the Melody/Edenvale neighborhood just on the south/west side of 101. Hellyer was my entrance/exit ramp for commutes. There's usually a lineup in the morning to get on 101 north. Once on 101, it's usually a bit clogged until you get on 280 north, then it's not too terrible. Luckily the distance from Hellyer to 280 isn't that far. Oh, but if you're going to Sunnyvale, you'll probably stay on 101 the whole way, so I don't know how that goes. I assume it gets clogged by the San Jose airport.

The normal pattern in the PM is heavy traffic between Lawrence Expressway and Oakland Road. At times it can be worse and stretch back into Mountain View or even as far as Redwood City.

I take 101North all the way, from Capitol expressway up to San Tomas every day. My guess is for no car pool starting from 9am, it would be about 45 mins for you. Check google map at 9am for a few days and you'll get the most accurate commute time.

I am not familiar with the west side of 101 from where you are. I am familiar with the East/Evergreen side so here is my neighborhood view.

Grocery: there is an organic supermarket on Silvercreek valley rd. I went there once 2 yrs ago and it looked like a Whole foods wanna be, but I read recently it has new ownership. It's probably the closest one to you.
There are more choices off Aborn & White: Lucky, Save mart. Also near Aborn & Ruby (facing the hill, continue right of Ruby)there is a new &excellent mini Walmart. The Evergreen farmers market meets Wed & Sunday in the square in front of this Walmart.

Drugstore: CVS is in a mini shoppette at the corner of Yerba Buena & San Felipe. I think that is the closest one.
Also more drugstores at Aborn & White. Btw, San Felipe road becomes White road at Aborn.

Dentist: there is a professional bldg full of dentists also at the corner of Aborn & White, next to McDonald.

As this area is close to the Silvercreek country club area, it's peaceful and has excellent elementary schools. Both Silver Oak & James Smith Franklin schools are very good schools.

I hope this helps.
