Some basic questions:

What's your budget for housing?

Where do you need to commute to in terms of work/employment?

Are you looking for public schools or private (due to philosophy, culture)?

That would help pinpoint if public transport is feasible for your case and can also zero in on what schools or school districts (if you

School Buses unfortunately these days are few and far between due to budget cuts from districts.

Here are ranking for all school scores in CA based on the latest Common Core test:
Best Schools in California - CA School Rankings

Academic score is not everything, but it gives you a quick read on "good" schools. Obviously schools are related to real estate and rental prices. So most will balance the cost vs school.

If money is no object (you can afford $5000-7000 rental or $1.5-$2.5M purchase for SFH 3/2 house):
Cupertino
Saratoga
Los Altos
Los Gatos
Palo Alto

Next tier (still good schools but rental and housing price are lower):
Almaden (SJ)
Evergreen (SJ)
Fremont
Mountain View
Sunnyvale

zero school buses in Santa Clara county public schools. Go on redfin dot com and the schools and scores are all on the map. no guarantees to get into your neighborhood school though.

You don't need "advise", although you may need advice.

^ there's all the help you need! Problem solved!

Seriously, look near your work place in Sunnyvale on Craigslist.

A list of the better elementary public schools in Sunnyvale can be found on greatschools dot com.

Most important before signing a lease is to call the school district, tell them where you are moving, and make sure there is actually a spot for your kid in their school. You may wish to call the school districts you are considering before even looking for a house, that may drive you to look near the school with openings and make your life easier.

I don't know Sunnyvale too well, but Cherry Chase and Cumberland are both tops and go into very well rated middle and high schools too.

I hope you're not stupid enough to think that buying in an area with "not so good schools" is a smart move. Ask a good realtor.
