It's a valid retort to those who need neon lights and taxi cabs to tell them what's fun and hip. They're tools acting out a movie in their minds.

Platitudes are never retorts.

Baseless assertions that reinforce existing beliefs are fun and convenient, aren't they?

Good point, as you basically said nothing.

Boring is a personal thing. I had plenty of fun last summer living in the small city of Abilene, TX. Find your fun. I'm pretty sure San Jose has more than enough to offer.

I think it's because of the demographics. San Jose is overwhelmingly male tech workers with poor social skills. Also it's on the West Coast, which like Japan is more conservative and boring than people think it is.

Outdated observation. Last census showed there were more young single women than young single men in the City.

Before that, it was generally 51/49 split between men/women. So for those 2 bitter guys who finished last, San Jose indeed does suck LOL

HockeyMac,

I read through your responses to my posts. They are good and valid points. Besides the trivial technicalities of "malls" vs "mixed-use neighborhoods", I believe we have more in common than we think.

Basically, it boils down to our beliefs regarding the proliferation of Santana-Row-style urban nodes. You want more of main street and downtown organic growth, and Santana Row only where necessary. I, on the other hand, desire all three solutions equally and will put a Santana Row into suburbia wherever I can

Mostly, though, we agree on upping density and making better use of the land available to us. 'Twas a good discussion, my friend.
