What do you guys think of Downtown San Jose today? Is it a good and fun downtown or is it a boring and not interesting downtown? What type of downtown is it, in your opinions?

its got some nice places to eat and go out drinking. Although the weekend scene can be a little wannabe-gangster.
On a scale of downtown in my experience, I would rate it s 6/10.

A lot of santa clara and 1st and 2nd st is sorta trendy. Good music venues (particularly Cafe Stritch and Pour House Bistro), a decent comedy club, a great library, a symphony, good resturaunts. Oh yeah and you can take light rail for $2 to avoid DUIs after drinking.

And finally there is a nice movie theater, an IMAX dome, and a rock climbing venue.

7.5/10. I used to party and mingle in downtown Sydney and Manhattan regularly so Ive got some decent perspective here.

And yes SF is better but we knew that.

Still a little rough, but getting better all the time. I think it is going to evolve, SJ gov't and business community is very focused on making this happen. If I knew I was going to work within a short distance for a long period of time, like 20 years, I think it would be a great place to live with potential for major appreciation - and I think most parts of the Bay Area are over-valued and won't appreciate nearly as much over time.

There are many parcels that can be redeveloped, and some are in the works for the next couple of years.

In 30 years, I bet nobody will be laughing at comparisons to SF. Yeah, that's a long time. But SF will stagnate and be built out, whereas SJ has so much potential to change. It will. People used to say Oakland would never change. Look what has happened.

It really nice and couldn't get any better than this. It's very lively days downtown with a lot going on.
