Really, you have a choice?

I have lived in 4 cities in Bay Area. Each city has only single choice for electricity & gas. 3 of those cities are PG&E. 1 is city owned utility.

Um, pretty sure the only choices are mobile phone, cable, satellite and internet. I've never heard of having a choice for water, power, landline phone, trash and gas in California.

There's XOOM Energy, but I had really no savings compared with PG&E, so I switched back.

Just moved from Australia to this country . In Australia, we could choose between different energy providers, which you could get a big discount if the energy provider wants to stop you from moving to other providers/

I thought it would be same in SF. Thanks for the information.

You can't choose which energy company services your residence, but you can choose the company from whom you buy electricity and gas.

If you're serviced by PG&E, they've hit their cap on alternate electricity providers, so the program is temporarily closed, and you cannot choose an alternate electricity provider.

Direct Access-Electricity | PG&E

You can still choose an alternate gas supplier if you're serviced by PG&E.

Core Gas Aggregation | PG&E

"Yeah, the savings on gas/electricity costs over PG&E totally made up for the hassles in billing," said nobody, ever.
