Last time I looked Apple was based in Cupertino, CA and that is where the "Spaceship" is located. It is not in San Jose! Nvidia's headquarters is in Santa Clara, again not in San Jose! As I said except for the Winchester Mystery House, there is not much in San Jose! We also have a mayor that lied to it's citizens to get elected and then caved in to the city workers and their unions and struck down a ballot measure to rain in public pensions in the City of San Jose that was approved by over 70% of the voters and we will soon have a sales tax that will basically be 10% so we can pay those city workers their pensions and still be driving on perhaps the worst roads in CA. Yep, we are a world class city alright!

Not a problem. If it quacks like a duck! And I didn't even mention that outside of the nightclubs and bars downtown, there isn't much to do, and the only theater showing first run movies downtown just closed it's doors on Thursday. We do have the SJ Sharks, I guess that a plus!

Why can't people just appreciate San Jose for what it is and its own charms?

"Silicon Valley" is no more a city than "the San Francisco Bay Area" is a city (i.e., it ain't).

So in sum, 18 pages of this nonsense and San Jose still is NOT a world class city. Maybe one day it'll became a beta and rise above the likes of Milwaukee and Guadalajara. Dare to dream!

Silicon Valley is not even a city, it's actually a geographical area, San Jose laid claim to the name in 1990, to try and make them seem better then they actually where in one of the many campaigns to revitalize the downtown area. To show how the world looks at the South Bay, during Superbowl week most of the activities happened in San Francisco and spent most of their money their, they obviously didn't find anything world class about the South Bay and went north to find it!

I don't think so, primarily because it doesn't have the architecture, historical cache, cultural credentials, or visual appeal of what people tend to think of as world class cities.

I think it's mostly a fairly nice city - speaking as a local person. But world class and of interest to tourists from the world over? I don't see it. San Francisco for example, is our nearest "world class city".
I recall Herb Caen describing San Jose as something like "that ugly brown stain to the south". LOL.

Interesting mention of the light tower. I never knew of an Eiffel connection.

Now, if you want to see some people that clearly have no concept of what "world class city" means just consult this: San Josean's for a World-Class City -
Apparently these Silly-con Valley leftists believe taxes and socialism make one "world class".
Viva la Revolucion, Comrades!
