No. Wrong. San Jose is San Jose. Everything inside the city limits is San Jose. Everything outside the city limits is NOT San Jose. It is a rather simple concept, whether you like it or not.

How about we just say San Jose is overcrowded, overpriced, and overrated..... I don't rate LA for the same reasons.

Smoggy, Silicon Valley in case of San Jose, sprawling, mild climate and unfriendly.

In order for a city to be world class it has to have world class things. Lets see what San Jose has to offer.

Cuisine and Fine Dining: Extremely subpar

-For a city with the wealth, weather, various cultures and proximity to agriculture and vineyards the state of dining in San Jose is atrociously bad. No excuse for this.

Museums: Mediocre at best

-A few museums but nothing even close to what could be considered to be world class.

Attractions: None

-There isn't a single attraction in the city of San Jose worth traveling to. Trip advisor has Santana Row listed as a top destination in San Jose. Jesus wept.

Art Scene: Almost nonexistent

-San Jose per capita spends less money on art then any other major city in the country. Its performance art scene is very small for a city of over a million people.

Landmarks: Zero

-Great cities have great landmarks, San Jose does not have a single notable landmark.

Architecture: Insert shotgun in mouth

-Words cannot express the visual dispair

Public Transportation: Poor

-Light Rail would be useful in a city 1/4th of the size of San Jose with a population of 200,000. We have some of the worst traffic in the nation.

Cleanliness: Litter is everywhere

-Notice the piles of trash everywhere. Rivers are polluted and roads are piled with garbage.

Music Scene: Crickets

Night Life: Retirement centers are more lively

-Santana Row is our the hot spot....let that just sink in.

On a positive note the weather here is amazing and the surrounding hill country is truly wonderful and underappreciated. But for a city with the wealth, industry and education levels San Jose is truly dull and charmless. Its LA if you stripped LA of the glamour, beach, quirkiness, art scene, cuisine, attractions and landmarks.

KenFresno is 100% right, his post is must read for anyone thinking about moving to San Jose.

San Jose is a city where people wake up, drive through terrible traffic to OTHER CITIES to create or consume culture, drive back at night through terrible traffic, go to sleep, and do it all again the next day.

San Francisco has 100x the cultural impact of San Jose. Cupertino, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Sunnyvale all have 10x the cultural impact of San Jose OR MORE despite being much smaller cities.

What's made in Cupertino? Your phone.
What's made in Mountain View? Your search engine.
What's made in San Jose? Nothing.. those other cities send their trash to the dump in San Jose.

.
By that standard, L.A., New York, London, Paris, Rome, Mexico City, and Mumbai are not "world class"
