Can you guys compare San Carlos and Los Altos to live? Like them both very much and making a decision. Thanks so much.

Well, I'm biased because I live near Los Altos and I think your spouse works in Palo Alto, so I'd like Los Altos more - if I can afford the higher cost that's likely.

If you can afford Los Altos, it is a very nice place, especially if you have children.

My daughter lives in Los Altos. She and her husband have two children. They are happy with their decision to live there. The schools are excellent but be aware that the school districts are not congruent with the city boundaries. I have heard that the grade schools, at least, are packed. A bond issue was passed to build more but the cost of land is so prohibitive no site(s) have been found. There is/was a charter school in the district whose existence is/was contentious. Grandchildren attend Springer.

Los Altos is significantly more expensive than San Carlos. If you can afford it then go for it.
