I received a speeding ticket for driving 34 miles over the speed limit on a 40mph road. I am going to be out of country in January and February. The appear by deadline on the ticket is 2nd of February. Ticket is just for violation and not misdemeanor.

The officer said they might require me to appear in court. Now I am super worried that I will not be here to appear in court. I just want to pay the fine online and be done with it.

Can someone here tell if court appearance is mendetory for this type of violations?

34mph over the speed limit?! Please don't drive anywhere near me! 74mph in a 40mph zone is just plain reckless and dangerous. Sorry, but you don't have any sympathy here from me.

You won't need to worry about being out of the country in Jan/Feb as you're undoubtedly already on the no-fly list now.

To be fair, they never asked for our sympathy - just asked a simple question, for which the facts were necessary to give. Sorry I don't know the answer to their question, but I also don't feel the need to shame them! Yes, that is excessively fast, but I'm assuming they already know that.
