I wished they would be able to move the airport to Moffet field when they were able to and routed the planes over the water to avoid disturbing the land area with planes flying over and gotten rid of the height restriction that long paralyzed the development of SJ downtown. This makes the BART extension less useful than it could be.

The new Terminal B while it appears to be a great upgrade from the old Terminal C but due to budget problems they had cut back on the essentials for having a terminal building with such long walkways i.e having moving walkways. The original perk of SJC was the short walks to the gate. Though the new configuration that came with the opening of Terminal B eliminated this perk, I miss those days as today unless you are fortunate enough to have a gate across from the security checkpoint in Terminal A or B you will need to walk a long time to get to your gate. The other issue is that the same budget problems with the renovation meant that they had to axe dual level separate access roads for arrivals and departures, this results in a traffic nightmare during busy times.

Maybe we can fill in the Bay around Alviso, and build an airport there. With the new land there would be a chance to connect in both Caltrain and BART while possibly adding another East/West route. The existing airport sits on prime property. Some could be developed and some could be converted into green space/parkland. This would hopefully also free downtown from height restrictions.

Perhaps. Isn't SFO's International terminal on reclaimed land?

SFBCDC - San Francisco Bay Plan

Even these guys noted the SF Bay Plan allows for expanding airports into the Bay, even though they're against filling in overall.

Tough problems that require engineering innovation....if only there was a place that solved things like this...

San Jose does not have a thriving anything, except for maybe crime industry and drug trade. As for the airport, nothing is wrong with it. I don't hear anyone complaining that buildings in Downtown SJ aren't tall enough (they can't even fill the buildings they already have). Seems like complaints about nothing.

Vacancy is below 10% across the board downtown: retail store fronts, apartments and office towers. Nice and blossoming market, no?

I don't click on links from posts where the poster doesn't live a comment, and only leaves a link to who knows where.

But, as to the title of the thread, well, don't all big cities have airports?
