I'm thinking of buying a plot of land somewhere in the general vicinity of Santa Clara (within one hour driving time) and putting a mobile home on it for times when I want to get out of town.

I love the local countryside, and was wondering what my best bet is for something like this.

I would look down in the Morgan Hill or Gilroy area's. Maybe even the Santa Cruz Mountains. Your budget will factor into the equation greatly.

Make sure you check local zoning regulations before you sign on the dotted line. Mobiles aren't allowed in a lot of areas.

San Martin would probably be the friendliest town to something like this, and the plot sizes are uniformly enormous.
