well I've lived all my life in and around San Francisco and currently in San Diego for the past yr. As far as work goes, it will be hard for you to find a IT job here depending on the position you are looking for. Overall IT jobs in SD are not all that great and pays much much less.
Weather for sure is much better compare to the Bay Area. 95% of the time the weather is nice and warm. Might rain a week out of a yr if your going to count the days. SD is a very laid back place to live so if you want to get away from it all then SD if for you.
Personal I don't care for it so I am planning on moving very soon. Thinking I might try the LA area as I do enjoy the warmer weather over the Bay but again pay if very low as far a tech jobs goes. Thats my line of work as well in looking (craigslist) not to much listings compare to the Bay.
Never hurts to try it out but find a job first unless you have the $$ that will hold you for some time.
good luck

That may be true for the upper portion of the bay(i.e sf) , but San Jose's weather is the same as S.D's or L.A's...weather shouldnt be a factor here.

SJ has more jobs, and better paying at that. The beach is just over the hill...The city up the freeway.

I agree about the similarities of the weather. Born and raised in So Cal now living in Nor Cal. Do a side by side comparison using weatherunderground.com and enter San Jose and then Hawthorne, CA (1 city inland from the beach in So Cal).

Default Weather Similar

Actually, yeah, the South Bay Area and parts of SoCal are similar, but have differences too.

South Bay area (Sunnyvale, San Jose) have slightly hotter summers than average LA, and colder winters with more rain (which I like a little bit having grown up in NorCal). Summer in coastal SoCal cities is a cooler, more constant with much less rain.

I'm in the west part of LA right now, and it's still warm at 9pm after an 85 degree day, and it's very humid today too. It's unpleasantness (in the house, not outside) is similar to a hot NorCal evening...gotta go outside.

No way. San Jose has more "extreme" weather than San Diego for sure. Winters are colder, summers are hotter.

San Jose certainly has more variation, but I would hardly call it "extreme." Both San Jose and San Diego have mild, semiarid, Mediterranean-type climates.
