So I was trying to get a copy of whatever deed is on file for a 20 year old purchase of a house in Mountain View. I can't seem to locate my copy but I will keep looking.

I naturally went to the recorder's office website, but I'm getting a message "we don't do search" or something similar. I don't understand why it's difficult to use their site. I know I must be missing something.

I know some of their processes had to change because of Covid-19 but I expected it would be easier to do this electronically.

Any advice is appreciated. Perhaps doing this by mail is the right course of action?

I would visit the Recorder's office in person if you couldn't get an appointment.

I forgot to add that I'm out of state. So maybe mail is an option.

You can hire a title company to go to the recorders office for you.

I managed to find the paperwork I was looking for. But I googled title company and found a few in San Jose. So thanks for the suggestion.
