Where can I find a safe, affordable weekly or monthly rental in San Jose? I'm interested in living in an artsy, hip neighborhood that is transit-friendly.

Define affordable. It's different to everyone. After living in San Jose for awhile, just about anywhere else is affordable.

There aren't too many "artsy, hip" areas in Silicon Valley. Downtown Mountain View is probably the closest to being hip. Also the Santana Row area of San Jose.
