Because the BMW and the Benz represent more of a status symbol than Audi, and that's a big thing in the Bay Area. I actually was asking my brother in law, who recently bought a newer 7 series BMW, why he wouldn't consider an Audi A8... his answer, because the BMW had more of a "bling" image - this is coming from a guy in his early 20's.

I'm a big Audi fan myself (and a huge car enthusiast in general), but they still haven't achieved the status level of BMW and Mercedes.

I notice Audis everytime I have to drive down there because there are only about 7 of them in my whole county (including mine). By the way if you see a black one covered in dust it's mine

See a lot of Audis, incl R8, in PA area.....my sense is Audis are usually bought by members of the overeducated set....esp those who know little about cars/driving and want to appear less materialistic...

Would argue new MB S/CL63 and 65 are vastly superior commuter cars for those who enjoy driving and value active/passive safety...

Many on SandHillRd (and in SV generally) who are car nuts seem to favor various S/CLs....S65s are fairly popular in Woodside/Atherton....

If you cover enough ground in the valley, you'll see every car there is. I'll probably see (or finally notice) one of those within a week.

Eh, I just moved here, and had to sell my Audi as part of the move -- couldn't have two cars out here, and I prefer my WRX. I didn't have an R8, though.

I saw a black and orange R8 going the speed of sound on 280 shortly after it came out. Haven't seen it since. It was probably wrecked.

OMG, I want that blinged out Mercedes!! I actually see a LOT of Audis here in SF, but I think the BMWs slightly outnumber them... Mercedes is probably third on that list. I love Audis myself, and would totally consider one over the other cars - especially since they have a 6-speed manual AWD, right?

Reality is hard.. the first crash of a Tesla roadster happened in San Francisco the day the guy got it. Someone didn't see or hear him and flattened the right front fender. Exotic Cars, Sports Cars, Luxury Cars, Crashes, Car Insurance, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini
