Hi,
This forum is just great! Got fantastic advice when I moved to San Jose a year back - and duly followed it

I am now considering a move to Fremont or Pleasanton and wanted to know how the commute would be to Sunnyvale/North San Jose (intersection of 237 and 101) in the mornings. Is 680 bad in the mornings & evenings? Also how bad is the dumbarton bridge in the mornings since i may have to commute some of the days to Palo Alto.

Thanks for your help!

Yes 680 is bad in the mornings and evenings.. that's the "Sunol Grade" which is infamous for miles-long backups. Don't be fooled by how much lighter it is now; when the economy is in full gallop, you're basically going to stop in Milpitas on your way home and it won't pick up until you get up the hill.

The Dumbarton is usually pretty good. The 101 side coming down to 237 will be rough though. It may serve you better to take 880 and 237, in spite of the heavy traffic, because that way you avoid a bridge toll.

Yeah, that commute can get pretty bad during peak commute hours. Milpitas seems to be a bottleneck whether you are driving down 880 or 680.
