hi! my bf and i are looking to move to san jose at the end of this summer. i'm 23 and he's 29. we're both students, he will be attending SCU school of law. we're not that familiar with san jose so we were wondering what neighborhoods we should look into. ideally somewhere with a kind of indie vibe. where is the nightlife? is there a particular area where young people tend to live? we're more into dive bars, with good jukeboxes or live bands; not the 'club type'. preferably somewhere within about 10 miles of santa clara. thanks in advance!

Indie vibe? That's generally for the kids up north. You can find plenty of dives around, but they're the legitimately dingy kind, not the ones with punk show fliers plastered everywhere (although the Blank Club is kinda like that). Just stick to the center of the valley.

i checked out the blank club website, it looks pretty cool.
i've been sifting through diff. threads and it seems like everyone hates san jose and says its boring :/
is that true? also, what neighborhoods should we look into?

Live in our around downtown. You can find all kinds of bars/hangouts and see what fits. The SCU campus is a short bus ride away on probably the busiest route (22 or 522 express). Typically, places like the Blank Club, Voodoo Lounge, Johnny V's, the Caravan and such have local shows with the occasional bigger acts.
