If you'd follow more than just water cooler talk, you'd know how far things have developed since then.

Who the hell wants to own anything in SJ (or anywhere else) unless have a family and/or plan to live in same place for 10-20yrs?

Condos everywhere tend to be for suckers

Many upwardly mobile singles in SV seem to want to rent some new condo in PA or SF until they make more bucks (and/or have kids) and want to build a new house in hills of Peninsula on >>1 acre...but housing is just shelter and a lifestyle choice, not a very remarkable "investment", even after 10-20yrs in upscale suburbs like Woodside

I'm not terribly worried about the investment part of the equation. This would be my only house and I will be living in it. I would love to have a house on some land but something in my price range would be too far away from work. Also, I wouldn't mind if there was something to do - I'm not expecting SF but at least there's something in San Jose.

The new downtown condo's all have fairly pricey HOAs. It's a different type of lifestyle that they are trying to create. More of an urban 'Chicago' style all in one type of place (corner markets, walking everywhere, public transit, etc...).

1 East is nearly sold out...2 units left last time I spoke w/ Cindy (the sales manager). Just as an aside, I have clients who purchased a 2 bedroom unit in 1 East. They love it, but one of them (2 20 something males) just got engaged and so they are looking to sell. They were one of the first to move in last year and want to stay in the complex, so if anyone wants one of those units, shoot me a private message.

The one I actually like the best is Plant 51. It feels a little more industrial, but once you are on the inside, it's amazing. Right next to HP, and great views of downtown on the east facing units (unless the high speed rail station goes in there). Certainly the best amenities, though.

The high rise ones are hit and miss. I still think they are a bit overpriced and it's showing in their lack of sales. Some of the higher floors have amazing views though. The 88 is my favorite of the bunch.

Good luck!
