Hello all, I got a job offer in pleasanton, ca and I have few questions about cost of living + area and whether or not I can live there comfortably with my salary of 80k? Here are some facts about me:

1. Moving from TX
2. Not planning to buy anything yet.
3. Single
4. I do not go out, basically I ll be just working and home.
5. I do not eat outside ( may be once in a blue moon)
6. Not planning to live in CA for too long.
7. How is Pleasanton area?
8. I do not have any debts.
9. I have enough savings as well.
10. I will be looking for 1 bed room apt.
11. I would prefer to stay close to work in Pleasanton but should I consider other neighborhoods as well? if so, what are they?

So can I make it with my salary of 80k there? I have done some calculations and according to my calculations I can make it there comfortably but I just wanted to get some opinions from the locals. Any help would be great!

Thanks

A single person should do fine in Pleasanton on $80K a year. For a family on the other hand, that's actually below average for that area. Having read your criteria I recommend living in Pleasanton or neighboring Dublin.

You will be fine on 80K in Pleasanton if you have no debts and only want/need a 1BR apartment. You should have plenty left over for savings and 401K based on your reasonable expectations.

No worries at all if you're living on your own. Pleasanton is a nice spot.

Last night I was at the Tonga Room at the Fairmont and our party sat next to a bunch of 'real housewives' of Pleasanton. They kept flirting with the guys at our table and our table kept reciprocating-it was hillarious. What a lively bunch they were. All wearing the tightest push up bras they could find. LOL

Anyway, it was fun.

Pleasanton is the definitive suburbia of the Bay Area.

It sounds like you are single. You may enjoy hanging out in Walnut Creek, which is a little more of a singles area.

If you want to live cheaper and do not need the excellent schools Pleasanton offers, you could also look in Livermore, which is next door to Pleasanton and quite a bit less expensive....pretty nice as well.
