You call that a functioning downtown? It's a dead downtown with no action!

Sighhhh...I go to the trouble of defining the word and he still doesn't understand! Maybe you need to come up with a different word then "functioning".

Availability of "action" defines the user more than the venue.

You really don't know what you're talking about. In fact, I'm actually going to a concert downtown tonight, so I'll fill you in later on whether or not it was dead. The last few times I've been downtown ( I'm not there often anymore since I no longer live in the South Bay) it's actually been pretty packed and my wife and I have had long waits at the restaurants we've eaten at. I'm wondering if you've actually ever spent any time there or are just a troll trying to stir the pot. Downtown SJ is not as active as many other large cities, but I definitely wouldn't call it dead.

Update: surprise of all surprises, even in the cold and rain there were people downtown last night on a Sunday night before work. Shocking.

This entire forum operates on an assumed correlation between building height and downtown activity. Don't be shocked that another drooling goober fell into that trap.

Funny thing is, most people aren't even allowed to go up in most of those really tall buildings, and not much exciting happens in them if they could, so what would be the attraction, anyway?

I'm downtown 3 or 4 nights a week until (at least) 9pm on week nights, there's always people there... It's not as crowded and noisy as downtown S.F, sure... But I actually prefer the low key vibe.
