Sort of confirms what I experienced (and countless others have confirmed) it is like in San Jose. Not a bad place to raise a family but terrible to be young and single, especially if you're a guy.

.From the article:

Quote:
“My general thought is men are more inclined to use dating apps early on. Even in college. Which I’m surprised by because college is the time you’re surrounded by people your age and people should interact more offline. Women do start a little later and it tends to balance out over time.”
This was my reaction, exactly. Single women I know in SJ, who work at the tech companies, say they feel invisible to their male co-workers and other guys around town. Apparently, the men are all on OLD, instead of being friendly and neighborly with the women in their midst.

We've even had techie guys on these Bay Area forums complaining about not being able to meet women, but they refuse to do anything but search online. Suggestions for various ways to meet women IRL are rejected. They're shooting themselves in the foot, then asking us why their feet are bleeding.

Many women wish to feel invisible. The alternative, being checked out at work, is something a #metoo thing.

The very few young single women in SV are all flooded with guys hitting on them all day.
Anyone with some taste would not participate in such mud wrestling.
Also as a result of too much interest, those women feel to be the center of the universe and just looking for someone to worship them, demand some completely one sided relationship, instead of being a partner.

No, it isn't at all. The irrational fear that it is must be one reason no one's talking to the women. Such a dysfunctional reaction! Men don't know how to talk to women anymore.

No, quite a few don't get hit on at all. You're imagining this elaborate scenario. It's a hallucination, lol.

The guy posting above you said the opposite; nobody talks to the women, for fear of being considered a stalker.

At work we have cubicles, but also have a common area that looks like Starbucks Coffee.
At that common area the 2 young 20's blond girls sit all day every day. They never work in their cube.
The same dozen 20's guys show up for few hours each every day to sit with them. Their body language is like they almost salivating while they are staring at one or both girls while pretending to be reading their emails on their laptops. Few of the guys are chatting up the girls for a while, and the rest of them imagine doing it themselves. It is like a dual star system with 12 planets. Those 2 girls love it, that is what they live for.

A typical reason for not talking to girls at work is that if the girl does not want to sleep with you already before you saying hello the first time, then she gets rid of you with the help of HR if you dare to approach her. Cruel, but it is a double edged sword.

Oh gosh. Isn't it just possible for these guys just to treat their female colleagues like regular people and without all these other implications?
