No activity at the former Town and Country space - still nothing more than a plot of urban prairie surrounded by a fence.

Meanwhile, not too, too far, at the intersection of Sunnyvale-Saratoga and Remington, the long vacated ruin (the former "Hungry Tiger" resto that was subsequently occupied by a series of short lived failing restos) was demolished. There is now a small patch of urban prairie there.

The latest in this sad saga:

Sunnyvale's Town Center Goes Up for Auction But Nobody Bids - The Bay Citizen

This is like what happens in Detroit.

Ponder that.

The Town and Country Village site was cleared and excavated during late 2011. Supposedly, a mixed use development is going in.

Seems like the supply of such developments currently exceeds demand.

Will we start to witness things like Pontiac, MI's ill fated Bloomfield Park here in the Bay Area?

BTW: The former Hungry Tiger / multiple Asian buffets site is still urban prairie.

Here's the latest I can gather (note to self - I am overdue for a pleasure visit to Downtown S'vale) from articles and not-quite-recent visits.

The Town Center site is still in the doldrums, with Pau still in litigation against Wells Fargo. On and on it goes ... a classic "Ruins Of Detroit" style fight over land no one seems to be all that excited about. To be fair, I hear Apple moved into part of a building.

The Town and Country site is in better shape. There is actual construction on one of the subdivisions, some densepack condos / apartments (can't tell at this point if they'll be owner occupied or rentals). The other subdivision is moving more slowly.

Think of all the lost revenue over the past decade plus. What a waste of land.

Hey now! There's a lovely Target right there in the middle of that, uh, up and coming area. In fact it's probably the best Target in all of Sunnyvale! A veritable international tourism magnet. And there's even a few other things open near it, too.

I do actually enjoy Murphy Ave and other nearby areas.

You bet! I grew up in the area and it was one of the first indoor shopping malls around, which was very novel at the time. It later became an HP facility, but it closed several years ago. It's awaiting some sort of redevelopment though it's anyone's guess what's it's going to be.
