My friend and I are coming to Santa Fe the last weekend of November from Pittsburgh. I would like to know what area to stay in (specific hotels would be helpful). We are both in our mid 20s and would like to be in a decent neighborhood within walking distance to bars and restaurants. Thanks!!

Observations from an outsider, as we stayed in Santa Fe last year.

(1) We stayed at Inn and Spa at Loretto, which was very close to the Plaza. It was kind of pricey for what you get, but the architecture of the place was interesting.
(2) La Choza (Roughly at Cerrillos at St Francis) was a really good place to eat, and the prices were reasonable
(3) The Plaza (downtown SF) and the State Capitol were worth visiting and are within walking distance of Loretto

Thank you! If we were to stay downtown is it possible to walk most places?

I'd suggest you stay at La Fonda, Inn of the Governors or, if you want self-catering, in one of the Duran St. rentals that Santa Fe Vacation Rentals, Luxury Casita of Santa Fe & Taos rents. These are all downtown. For eating, check out www.SantaFeNeighbors.com. The Santa Fe visitors' bureau is in the new convention center about 5 minutes walk from the Plaza - go check it out and they'll give you lots of information. Enjoy your stay here!

You might have to define "possible."

This is America and it is un-American to walk, so for some,
100 ft or so is too far.

A one-mile circle pretty much encompasses everything there
is in Santa Fe's downtown.

I'm also going to vouch for The Inn of The Governors.
I'll vouch for the breakfast and the bar, also.

If you do go out drinking at night, watch for speeding
lawyers driving with their headlights off.

Yes. We didn't venture too far away from downtown - we stayed around the Capitol, Santa Fe "River", and the Plaza. but it was very walkable.

Thanks! I'm so excited to see Santa Fe - the pictures look gorgeous. We are coming from Pittsburgh and have traveled a lot in Europe, the Caribbean, etc., but the farthest west I've ever been is Chicago lol.

New Mexico is a unique place. If you have the time to visit Albuquerque/travel to Taos, I'd try to fit those items in as well.

I think we're going to fly into Denver and drive down. Mapquest says it's about six hours, but do you know if it's a bad drive? By bad I mean mountain roads lol and I'm really hoping there's no snow.
