I'm really just looking fora two bedroom SFR with a garage! Yes, it's difficult to find garages unless the homes are quite expensive. I want to live in the northeast within city limits or maybe south capitol.
Indeed the garage is a challenge if you're wanting the near eastside. I don't know if the desire for the garage is for storage, simple shelter for a vehicle, or secure shelter for the vehicle. If you're wanting simply shelter, carports are an option and fairly common. Also, we don't typically get enough snow for it to be a problem to get your car scraped off in the morning. So that leaves summer, and wanting to avoid the heat. Lots and lots of folks in SF just use the sunshades in the window and don't worry about it. We also don't get enough rain to make it burdensome to get from house to car on the few days a year it's raining when you want to go somewhere.
