They promote Madrid as a artsy town and being an artist myself, I was seriously considering moving there. Of course, I wouldn't have moved if I had not seen the town with my own eyes and approved it. I'll be doing the Turquoise Trail in a couple of weeks and I'll make a point in stopping at Madrid and look around and see if I agree with what has been said.
My impression of Madrid? It's a fun place, and I can understand why artists might be intrigued with the thought of living there, but I am not an artist and I would choose to visit and not live there.
Been going there for years ..... back when it was truly a ghost town and then as it grew into the fun and funky place it is today.
Cute little arty-tourist type town, but small. Used to be a mining town, even had a minor league baseball team, then a ghost town, now making a comeback. But very close to Santa Fe for the necessities of life.
Never been there but have read a lot of good and some bad things about it. Seems to be where all the hippies dropped out to.
