i am moving to santa fe and vicinity mid march and am looking for a furnished apartment...i do not want an apartment in a complex with lots of people...id like a furnished casita i can do month to month...i am looking on craigslist but recently the rentals seemed to be slowed and i am getting very worried about coming there and having no place to live
any suggestions?? im looking on rental sites as well and so far not much on the market...and funny, when i was there a month ago there was alot not sure what happened ;(
The rental market is very tight here - last I heard there was only a 3% vacancy rate.
Check out The New Mexican (Santa Fe's daily paper) classifieds. The Santa Fe Reporter (our weekly alternative paper) also has rentals in their classifieds. Good luck! Hope you find something.
You can also check the more vacation-oriented sites: (VRBO, HomeAway). They're always furnished, but usually pricy. You might find someone who will give you a good rate, though, if you're planning to stay for several months.

There are businesses that handle only casitas, you can Google "casitas in Santa fe". But the rents are on the level of vacation rentals. Another thing you could try is Craigslist, for furnished rentals, and enter your price point.
If you look at Craig's list rentals, and put "Eldorado" in the search there are several nice houses for rent that would actually be quite inexpensive if you had a room mate. I know that might not be ideal.... but it would be a way to get here and get settled. Eldorado is only a 15 minute drive to town and it offers lots of quiet and privacy. Also, there is a free bus service from Eldorado into S.F. and back every week day. All of the houses listed look pretty nice....
I'll keep on saying this - when using Craig's List, be very careful. If you live out of town, do not send any money to someone you do not know as a down payment. I have heard too many true stories of people announcing rentals on Craig's List who are not the owners of the property, and would-be renters are getting scammed (to say nothing of real owners who are surprised to have people moving into their homes). Get proof of the lessor's identity and proof that they are the legal owners of the property - and then meet them in person to ensure their identity photo matches. Don't buy the story that the lessor is out of the country for a long vacation, or is stationed there for a military assignment.
