Hi everyone,

I'm considering a move to Santa Fe for a job with the state in court system. It'd be just me making the move with an income around 60k.

I'm not looking to buy, but I'd like a rental where I'd feel secure, keeping my budget around 1,000 a mo.

Is flying into/out of SF super expensive? Is it better to use Albuquerque airport?

I've lived in South Dakota and Wyoming, so the weather isn't an issue.

Any info is appreciated!

Hello,

I can address the flight options since I've flown in and out of Santa Fe several times. Non-stop commercial air service is available between Santa Fe and Dallas/Ft. Worth, Phoenix (American Airlines) and Denver (United Airlines). At one time I flew non-stop from LAX to Santa Fe, but I don't know whether that is still available. Albuquerque has non-stop flights to many more cities, but it is an hour drive to Santa Fe. Santa Fe is a much smaller airport and much faster to get in and out of, and it is a quick drive to downtown. The cost varies based upon where and when one is traveling to, so it is hard to generalize, but there is low cost airline service available in Albuquerque via Southwest Airlines. Private flight service is available at both airports and the cost is similar.

You should be able to find a rental within your budget. Check out Craigslist. Rents tend to be cheaper in the south end of town, FYI.

I've noticed a recent lack of nice condos for sale in SF. I'm always keeping up with the market there.

There are several very inexpensive shuttle busses from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and back.

You should be able to find a decent small place to rent for that amount, but the rental market is pretty tight - so when you do find something that'll work for you, grab it.
As for the air service, I agree totally with Westcoasters' post.
