There are 4 miles of marked, groomed cross country ski trails (marked with a blue diamond) plus the service road which is groomed for both classical and freestyle cross country skiing, extending from the crest at the north end, to the ski area at the south, and as far down hill as the 10k trail parking area.

The trailheads are found at the service road at the peak (lower parking area), the Ellis trailhead, the 10k trail head, and at the north end of the ski area/tram.
You are talking about Sandia. The question is about Santa Fe. My reply was about Aspen Vista Trail near Ski Santa Fe at the end of Hyde Park Road.

On any hiking trail at high elevations when there is sufficient snow. So the hiking trail maps double as snowshoeing maps in the snowy season. Just don't snowshoe on top of x-country ski trails, that is bad etiquette.

Hahaha, no wonder his response didn't quite make sense to me!

If you want reliable snow, and that is important to you, then Santa Fe is not for you. Santa Fe is right at the edge of acceptable for winter sports .... whether you view it as on the (acceptable/not acceptable) side depends on your standards. As others have said, Taos or better yet Pagosa Springs/Durango are far better choices for snow recreation than the Santa Fe area.

Full disclosure: Fantatical X-country skier/ back country skier/ and maybe a little less downhill skier who lives in the Santa Fe Area.
